Liturgy & Music ministry

The Liturgy & Music Ministry of St. Dominic Mission is committed to enhancing the community’s experience of prayer, worship, sacraments and the communion of saints so that each of us may have a meaningful experience of participation in every liturgy we attend.

Arts & Environment Ministry

The Art & Environment Ministry helps decorate the church for major Church holidays and observances.  Volunteers are needed to help put up and take down décor for Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter.  The time commitment is very short.  By joining this ministry, you can insure that the Church looks beautiful for holiday observances.  No special skills are needed and both men and women can participate.

St. Dominic Liturgical Ministries

Stewardship is a way of expressing the Eucharist in our day-to-day lives. It is a willingness to share for the benefit of others. At St. Dominic Mission, we have over forty individuals who graciously participate during the year in one or more of the liturgical ministries witnessed each Sunday. Even though our faith is individual and personal, it is surely supported and nurtured by their active participation.

There are four
Liturgical Ministries:

Acolyte

At the start of the liturgy, the acolyte carries the cross and leads the procession into the church. He/she serves at the altar by assisting the celebrant in various ways as needed. At the end of Mass, the acolyte leads the recessional to the narthex.

Announcer

Weekly announcements are in a three-ring binder found on the cabinet in the narthex. The announcer needs to take a few moments to become familiar with them before proceeding to the choir side lectern a few minutes before Mass begins. One set of announcements is given before Mass begins and the second set is given after communion.

Lector

At the beginning of the Liturgical Year, each lector is given a Workbook for Lectors and Gospel Readers to help him/her prepare the assigned readings.  In the entrance procession, Lector 1 walks just before the celebrant while carrying the Book of the Gospels in a manner that is clearly visible to the congregation.  Lector 1 reads the First Reading and Lector 2 reads the Second Reading.  (During the summer months, there may be only one lector for both Readings.)  Lector 2 also reads the Intercessory Prayers.  At the end of Mass, Lector 1 carries the Book of Gospels directly behind the acolyte in the recessional.

Eucharistic

Eucharistic Ministers assist the celebrant in administering the sacraments of Holy Communion, the consecrated bread and wine.

If you would like to take part in even an occasional liturgical ministry opportunity at St. Dominic Mission, please feel free to give Marsha a call. The commitment to share gifts of ministry is welcome anytime throughout the year and guidelines for each area of ministry are provided.

Sacristan Ministry

A sacristan prepares the worship space before and after Mass.  The sacristan carefully arranges the liturgical books, the vessels, etc., necessary in the celebration of the Mass.  Training is provided.  Sacristans should be available about 30 minutes before and after Mass to set up and put away the liturgical items.  Sacristans strive to make the House of God orderly and to help the priest with his service at the Altar.

Wedding Ministry

A meeting between the pastor and the couple is required and normally involves a nine month preparation period.  A wedding coordinator will assist the couple to be married with details of the rehearsal and wedding ceremony and make sure that all the requirements are met.  The coordinator will help ensure that everything takes place on time and that everyone is in place to begin the ceremony.
